BIRTH PLAY THERAPY
FOR BABIES AND YOUNG CHILDREN
Birth Play Therapy sessions for babies and young children (0 - 5 yrs) focus on understanding how the birth and perinatal experience was for both mama/caregiver and baby/child. Sessions are facilitated to support the child’s playful curiosity, helping them to safely explore their sensory body and emotional experiences through welcoming tunnel-play and relational play with mama/caregiver. If you are a mama or caregiver wanting to try birth play therapy for your child, and you have not previously processed or shared your birth experience therapeutically with myself or with another health professional, it is recommended you book first an initial Birth Therapy Session for Adults, where we meet first to understand your perinatal and birthing experience.
For best therapeutic outcomes for you and your child, a recommended course of Birth Play Therapy is generally 5 - 10 sessions. Sessions are experiential, so are only available in-person in our therapy space in Te Puna, Tauranga, Aotearoa.
Please reach out if you have any queries or questions before booking an appointment, I would be happy to have a brief chat with you.

Birth Play Therapy sessions for Babies and Young Children (0-5 yrs) involve a safe, gentle and fun approach, with sessions typically including welcoming tunnel play and attachment based play between the child and mama/caregiver. The sessions are guided by the baby or child’s embodied experience of their birth, their creative impulse for re-enactment of their birth, and their age/developmental needs. Tunnel play offers a very felt embodied experience of the birth canal for little ones, and is an effective form of therapeutic play to help young children process their emotional distress or missing birth/post-birth experiences. When babies and young children are offered a therapeutic environment to process their birth and have their emotional experience also named and validated it helps them to feel felt, and this often helps you as mama/caregiver to process how the experience was for you.
